How to Buy a DFW Business Without Starting From Scratch
Building a business from zero is hard. Buying one that's already generating revenue is a completely different game — and in DFW right now, the opportunity has never been better.
Here's the framework:
Step 1 — Know your target. The best acquisition targets in DFW right now: HVAC companies, plumbing businesses, roofing contractors, and electrical companies with $300K–$1.5M in SDE (seller's discretionary earnings). These businesses have proven revenue, existing customer bases, and established local reputations.
Step 2 — Find motivated sellers. Most owners aren't listing on business broker sites. They're burned out, aging, or dealing with health issues — and they haven't told anyone yet. The best deals come from direct outreach.
Step 3 — Structure the deal right. You don't need $1M in cash to buy a $1M business. Seller financing, SBA loans, and earnouts are how most small business acquisitions are structured. A business with $400K in SDE can often be acquired with $50K–$100K down.
Step 4 — Operate and optimize. Once you own it, you install systems — CRM, AI automation, lead gen — and the business that was running on the owner's relationships starts running on infrastructure. That's where value is created.
