# Dallas Police Are Expanding AI Cameras Citywide — Here's What They're Not Turning On

Dallas police are expanding their AI-powered camera network across the city — and in a rare move of restraint, department leadership says the facial recognition features baked into the hardware won't be activated, at least for now.

Dallas PD is rolling out more AI-equipped cameras across the city as part of an ongoing surveillance and public safety expansion.

The cameras come with facial recognition capability built in, but a department representative confirmed there's no current plan to switch it on.

The expansion continues a broader national trend of cities adopting AI-assisted monitoring tools faster than the policy conversations around them can keep up.

**Why It Matters**

Whether or not you think more cameras is a good thing, the more relevant signal for business owners is this: AI infrastructure is getting normalized in DFW public spaces faster than most people are tracking.
